Living Like a Local in Melbourne for a Week

Sachin Kandel·August 5, 2026

From hidden laneways and specialty coffee to parks, museums, and local markets, here's how I explored Melbourne beyond the tourist attractions.

Spending a week in Melbourne gave me the chance to experience the city beyond the tourist attractions. I explored hidden laneways filled with colorful street art and visited some of the city's best cafés. The local food scene was incredibly diverse, offering cuisines from around the world. I enjoyed relaxing walks through beautiful parks and gardens. Public transport made it easy to explore different neighborhoods every day. The city's creative atmosphere was visible everywhere I went. Friendly locals and vibrant markets added to the experience. Melbourne's unique culture made me feel at home almost immediately. It is a city I would gladly return to.
